Time to Read Programme- A fun day out!

We in Queen of Angels were so delighted to take part in the Time to Read Programme this year. This programme, sponsored by ESB, was set up to give valuable reading support to children in 2nd class. ESB workers came into our school every Wednesday morning to read with 7 chosen pupils. Over the course of the year the children formed a very close relationship with their tutors and similarly the tutors gained so much from working with these young eager, enthusiastic students. Each Wednesday, the children waited with great anticipation, eager to get reading!

On the final day of the course the boys and girls were invited up to the ESB offices and were treated to a truly magical, action-packed day. They were treated to a delicious breakfast, followed by a tour of the building. They visited the dispatch room with Bernie at the helm. They also got a tour of the nerve-centre of the building .

They built their own Doodlebot with ESB engineers helping them with their creation. After this exciting activity, they were taken outside to see the huge vehicles that are used by the ESB workers when they are installing electricity or fixing problems around the country. They were told that it would set them back €200,000 if they ever wanted to purchase a big truck like that!

The tutors then presented the pupils with their “Time to Read” certificates along with a Roald Dahl book and lots more goodies to take home with them! Very content, happy children returned to school after experiencing such a magnificent day!
