Aistear: The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework

Much of children’s early development and learning takes place through play and hand-on experiences. The Aistear Programme is a framework to provide enjoyable and challenging learning experiences through the use of these elements of play and hands-on experiences. The emphasis is on oral language, social interaction, routine and self-regulated structure.

The development of Aistear: the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework marks an exciting milestone in early childhood education and care in Ireland. It describes learning and development through the four interconnected themes of Well-being, Identity and Belonging, Communicating, and Exploring and Thinking.

The school is fortunate to have one of less than 60 teachers in the country trained in this new framework for infant education. We are one of a few select schools who have been invited to pilot this new internationally researched way of teaching infants.
