The children and the staff of Queen of Angels were delighted to welcome award winning and world famous author John Boyne to the school on 27 th April. John is the author of the best selling and hugely popular book "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas".

As John’s book is used as a Sixth class novel it was a wonderful opportunity for the children to meet with him.

Children from 3rd to 6 th classes came to the school hall to hear John read an excerpt from his book. Not a sound was heard. Adults were as enthralled as the children listening to John read as if the story was actually happening.

John’s invitation to ask questions after the reading was met with a forest of raised hands from children all wanting to ask their questions. So many questions, so many answers for John but he did this with great patience, grace and humour. He was asked who inspired him to write, when did he start writing, why he decided to write about the Holocaust, why did the children have to die, what emotions he felt when he had finished the book ?- and many more questions.

This was a special occasion for the children. In years to come some of them may be visiting a school and telling children they were inspired to write by John Boyne.

We are especially grateful to John for taking the time to visit and meet with the children as we know he is extremely busy. We wish him lots more success with his next book.
