Our school plan for English is based on the principles, approaches, methodologies and content outlined in the Teacher Guidelines and Language Statement for the Revised Curriculum.

Our Vision as a school is to provide a stimulating and nurturing environment to enable each child to communicate and express themselves clearly and become competent in reading and writing so that he/she will benefit fully from the educational process and develop his/ her potential.

The development of our English Language Programme uses the main headings Oral Language, Reading and Writing. We place particular emphasis on:

  1. promoting positive attitudes and developing an appreciation of the value of language-spoken, read and written.
  2. developing confidence and competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  3. enabling the child to read and write independently.

We encourage and welcome the involvement of parents in their childrens’ education through meetings, helping with homework and partnership schemes e.g. Paired Reading and Forward Together.

Each class from Junior Infants to 6th get a 10 week block in Drama. The children really enjoy their involvement and eagerly look forward to their classes. Our Drama teacher is Kevin Murphy. Kevin has been working through Drama and Dance for 15 years.

The complete policy is available, on request, from the school office or parents room.
