Seachtain na Gaeilge took place from Monday 9th until Friday 13th March this year in Queen of Angels. There were lots of activities taking place throughout the week. Every class was busy creating wonderful art pieces with an Irish theme as part of our Comórtas Ealaíne (Art Competition). As a result, the hall looked amazing!
Events such as An Tóraíocht Taisce (Treasure Hunt) and An Tráth na gCeist (Table Quiz) provided great entertainment for all the pupils. Lots of classes enjoyed the Walkway Challenge (Dúshlán Shiúlbhealaigh), while others took part in the Bord Gaeilge competition. The Kahoot Quiz, based on Lá Fhéile Pádraig, provided lots of fun for the senior classes! All classes really enjoyed the fun activity “Cé hé mise?”, where they had to guess the staff members from their baby photos.
The children also enjoyed their big Céilí Mór in the hall on Wednesday, and a big míle buíochas to Ms Kyne for sharing her wonderful teaching talent and helping the children learn all the jigs and reels.
We also had our annual Lá Glas, where everyone came dressed in the colours of our national flag (Bratach na hÉireann). Some even dyed their hair green! To kick-start this lá speisialta, all the classes gathered in the junior yard for our very own Paráid Naomh Pádraig. The children played bodhráns, waved flags and banners, shook shamrocks, maracas and tambourines, and banged drums as we marched around the school grounds. We even ventured outside the gates where lots of passing traffic beeped their horns as we waved to them.
The annual Seó Mór took place after the parade and it was wonderful. We ended the show by singing Amhrán na bhFiann together.
Bhí seachtain thar barr ar fad againn!
