We were delighted to welcome five schools, 128 pupils including 32 pupils from our own school, on Monday 9th February to the annual Ficheall Chess Tournament. This is the second year we have hosted this tournament which is all about playing chess for fun. This was our fourth year taking part.
This year we entered four teams – two “Budding Masters” consisting of 4th class pupils and two “Masters” teams consisting of 5th and 6th class pupils and our more experienced chess players.
An amazing time was had by all and our wonderful pupils were the perfect hosts, showing sportsmanship in all matches. We were lucky enough to have Seamus Duffy as our arbiter, a successful nationally ranked chess player himself, who organised all the matches.
Well done to everybody who took part. We are hoping to bring back our weekly lunchtime chess club to encourage not only new chess players but to build on the success of all our current chess players.
